Esther Dunnegan joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc, Omicron Zeta Chapter in 1986. She served as Souvenir Book Chair, Blue Revue Chair, co-developed & chaired “Wake County Teacher Appreciation Programs” and sponsored & hosted African Educator’s Delegation Reception.
She chartered Sigma Xi Zeta Chapter, Morrisville, NC, January 15, 2002; served as Basileus, implemented The Little Blue Scholarship Program, founded Morrisville Education & Community Service Enterprise, 501.c.3, co-chaired the Circle of Elders Program 2003-‘14, represented Sigma Xi Zeta at Zeta United Nations Day, chartered Zeta Amicae, 2014; Archonette Youth Program, 2004; Amicettes and Pearlettes, 2012, inducted First Zeta Male Network Auxiliary in NC and Eastern Region, 2013, Developed Sigma Xi Zeta Eldercare Program 2010, and received Wake County Human Services Grant Recipient to implement “Heart2Heart” women’s health initiative. Esther Represented Sigma Xi Zeta in Community and Town of Morrisville Social Action and Engagement activities including establishing Shiloh Historical Marker and Dedication Program, Historical Board and Display, and Historical Preservation.
Esther was NC State Leadership Conference presenter and Area II Coordinator. In the Eastern Region she chaired the Chapter Basileus Committee, Youth Advisor, ER Newsletter Editor; was the ER Graduate Soror of the Year and was inducted into the ER Hall of Fame. At the national level she was a workshop presenter, served on the Constitutions & Bylaws Committee and is currently the Director of the International Women of Color Committee.
Esther received a BA in History and Social Science from NCCU, Durham, NC, 1971 and an MA in History,1988. She was a member of the Morrisville Planning and Zoning Board and is a member of the Morrisville Chamber of Commerce.
